Friends, associates and fellow suburbanites who share our enthusiasm for the suburban way and want to help our readers find the joy here as well.
Hello and Welcome!
My name is Laurie Jane and I am bored in the burbs ...
I created Bored in the Burbs and the Boredom Bites newsletter for former city dwellers who are looking for more excitement, humor and inspiration in their daily suburban life.
For those of you who may have physically moved out of the city for greener pastures and more closet space but mentally still crave the energy, culture and vibrancy of the city.
Here you can find bite sized ideas of things to DO, BUY or THINK about that will help turn those suburban blah's to ah's ...
Our Boredom Bites are not the kind that suggest you jet off on an eco travel trip to Tanzania or offer insider tips on how to get your name on a list for the latest Marc Jacobs bag, our ideas are things that you can actually DO, BUY and THINK about. Real ideas for real people who are slugging it out in the suburbs.
We understand that living in suburbia sometimes feels like ground hog day. With its endless driving, team practices, supermarket visits, house chores and social guidelines to abide by.
We understand that living in suburbia at times feels like a re enactment of high school and not necessarily the fun part.
We understand that you still crave adventure, spontaneity and freedom.
Most importantly, we understand that you can take a gal/guy out of the city but you can't take the city out of the gal/guy.
We are SEX and the CITY meets DAILY CANDY for your suburban sou!
The Story Behind Bored in the Burbs
When I first moved to Suburbia my world was turned upside down. I knew their would be an adjustment period but I had no idea how much I would miss city living. For me, the cities frenetic pace and culture of convenience was able to hide the reality that I had three kids, a husband, a career and a home to tend to. So you can imagine my surprise when I arrived in suburbia with its slower pace, quiet streets and space to think. You see, somehow I had magically turned into a grown up along with all its rules and responsibilities and I am not sure i was ready for that role just yet. When I asked fellow suburbanites how long the adjustment would take I was told 5 years; I was aghast. I don't have 5 years to spend being unhappy. That's when I decided to take my city spirit and know-how and apply it to my suburban lifestyle.
I have always been the type of person who can be found pouring over websites, magazines, blogs, newspapers, books and talking to everyone under the sun about interesting things to do, see, and think about. Coupled with my life coaching degree and recent study with Martha Beck, Oprah's life coach guru an idea was born; Bored in the Burbs.
So, if you too at times are feeling Bored in the Birds then come with me on my journey from the Blah's to ah's ...
